BIRRDsong FAQ Table of Contents
We are a non-profit survivor-led source for information, support, referral, and resource development. Based in the Pacific Northwest U.S. we hope to soon have chapters in many other locations. We incorporated September 29, 2004 (Registry#239088-90). The backgrounds of our group members vary from laypersons to professionals, survivors, family members, friends, and all those dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by brain injury. We are open to everyone. Back to TopWhat is our mission and our goals? Our broad goal is to link brain injury survivors and their families with community support networks. This includes medical, legal, education, social services and business, in addition to other recovering survivors and their families and support persons. By bringing the community to survivors and their families, together we can all make a difference. We invite you to participate so that, together, we can actively bring support to our families, who too often struggle in isolation, searching for answers to medical, financial, legal, and social support questions. As survivors we hope to help our communities understand what it is like to experience the effects of brain injury, our special needs and how we have developed unique strategies to meet our many challenges. We are determined to utilize the vast knowledge that survivors and their families have championed through years of direct experience. We believe that by sharing our recovery experiences with others affected by brain injury or other types of cognitive decline we can make a difference in their lives and our own. Back to TopHow is the resource listing developed? The resources listed on our website are either unpaid listings for community services or listings for professionals who may contribute to BIRRDsong. Any funds received from listings on the resource page are used strictly to fund the organization and the website. They should not be considered endorsements in any way but merely as resources available to you. Back to TopWhat is the difference between a resource and a referral? A resource can be either a public service or a professional listing. Professionals or services listed as resources are not endorsed by BIRRDsong but merely provided as potential resources available to you. A listing on the referral page indicates only that brain injury survivors and/or their support teams have found a resource personally helpful to them. No listing on the referral page is a result of payment to any officer or member of BIRRDsong, nor is it to be considered an endorsement by BIRRDsong.
